While checking out a post over at Lifehacker regarding a command-line database called FAST, I noted in the comments the mention of Tobo which is an IM bot that allows you to keep track of a simple todo list. I’ve tried out various todo type applications/utilities/etc. and could never pin down a simple solution that would allow access via computer and mobile phone. Tobo is exactly what I was looking for.
Simply add tobo.bot@jabber.org or tobo.bot@gmail.com as a friend using your favorite IM client and your done. No further configuration necessary.
Now using Digsby on my PC, I keep an IM window open which gives me a constant tie in to Tobo where I can do various things with my todo list such as add, delete, mark items complete, etc. Then, when I’m away from my computer, I can access Tobo on my iPhone using the kickass BeejiveIM app.
Want a print out of your todo list? No problem if you use Digsby. Type getlist in the Tobo IM window. Then simply go to Tools -> Chat History. In the Fast Chat Browser window, select the account associated with Tobo and then select whatever name you assigned to Tobo in the Buddy listing. The last chat entry will be a listing of all your todo items. Copy/paste to notepad or whatever notepad replacement you may use (such as Notepad++) and hit print.
For more info on Tobo, hit up the website or follow Tobo’s creator (dendiz) on twitter.

Be honest… charts in presentations suck! Sure, charts are way better than a table full of text data because of their “purtiness” but they still suck.
If only there were a way to spice them up like adding 3D effects… that would be awesome!
Since at least version CS, Adobe Illustrator has made it really easy to add 3D effects to pie charts (I’m obviously late to the game on this one but I’ve owned Illustrator since CS3 and have used it maybe 5 times). I was asked recently to create a pie chart at work and, like everything else, I can’t just do it the easy way. No… I like everything I create to stand out from the typical “boring” crowd. So the quest began…
Instead of going through all the steps necessary to create a chart and add the 3D effects, there are plenty of other blog posts out there showing you how it’s done. The beauty is after you add the effect to your chart, the chart data is still editable. Take a look at the following links:
I’m a huge Photoshop fan and never really had much to do with Illustrator. My Illustrator addiction is just beginning.
